Our school is an accreditated Children’s University ‘Learning Destination’. Children’s University (CU) is a national programme that encourages children to access learning beyond the normal school day and to gain recognition for their commitment to enhancing their own learning.
Throughout the year when your child attends a lunchtime club, after school club or special learning activities such as accredited theme days they will be working towards a special award.
Children will receive credits for each hour they spend attending these clubs and the credits will be recorded. Children will receive a CU ‘National Award’ once they have reached Bronze (30 hours), Silver (65 hours) and Gold (100 hours). At the end of the CU year, graduating children and families will be invited to attend a CU Graduation Ceremony in one of the local Universities. The children will be dressed in caps and gowns then presented with their CU Certificate. The graduation is a lovely way to celebrate the commitment and hard work the children have displayed towards learning throughout the year.
Children’s University encourages voluntary learning and has a strong emphasis on commitment to engage in activities and learning. CU rewards young people for the extra learning they undertake in activities that enthuse and interest them.
If you have any questions regarding Children’s University, please speak to Collette Gibbons.
We would like to thank children and parents for their continued support and engagement with the Children’s University program. Children continue to gain credits through our theme days and weeks within school and by engaging in the activities online.
Lunchtime clubs will be starting in the Spring term which will enable children to gain further credits towards their awards and we will be looking at after school clubs and how and when these can begin again at Springwood
